Privacy policy

Last updated 26 October 2026

Template, not yet reviewed by a lawyer. It describes what our website and software really do, but the wording still needs legal review, and items in [brackets] are placeholders to fill in.

The short version. We don’t have accounts, we don’t run analytics or ads, and we don’t sell or share anything about you. Our website sets no cookies. Hearth and our games keep their data on your PC. The only personal data we handle is what any web server sees (your IP address, for a moment) and the emails you choose to send us.

This policy covers lowfire.ly (the website), cdn.lowfire.ly (our download server), Hearth (our launcher), Lowfire Setup and the Lowfire Patcher (our installer and updater), and the games we publish.

Who we are

[Lowfire legal entity name], [Registered address], [Country of registration] (“Lowfire”, “we”, “us”) is the controller of the personal data described here. For anything about privacy, email privacy@lowfire.ly.

The website (lowfire.ly)

  • No cookies, no analytics, no trackers. The site doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t use local storage to identify you, and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, embeds or pixels. Fonts and images are served from our own domain.
  • Hosting. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives your IP address, browser user agent and the address of the page you ask for, so it can deliver the page and protect the site from attacks. We don’t receive or keep these request logs. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • Live version numbers. Some pages ask our download server for the latest version numbers when they load. That request carries the same information as any page request and is not logged by us.

Downloads (cdn.lowfire.ly)

Installers, updates and game files are served by our own download service, which runs on Cloudflare Workers and Cloudflare R2 storage.

  • To serve a file, the server necessarily receives your IP address and the user agent of your browser or of Hearth (which identifies itself as LowfireHearth/1.0). We don’t store these.
  • Download counters. We count how many times each file is downloaded per day: a file name, a date and a number. Nothing about who downloaded it (no IP address, user agent, referrer, cookie or identifier) is read for this or stored with it. These counts can’t be linked to you.
  • Cloudflare may keep short-lived operational logs as our processor, under its own policy.

Hearth, Lowfire Setup and the Patcher

These apps have no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising and no telemetry. They don’t send us crash reports, usage statistics or any identifier.

What they send over the internet. When online, Hearth contacts only cdn.lowfire.ly, to read the catalog of games, news and update information, and to download game files and updates for itself and your games. These are ordinary download requests. Offline mode (Hearth → Settings) stops all of them; installed games still play. Lowfire Setup installs from the file you downloaded and needs no connection. The Patcher contacts cdn.lowfire.ly only when you update online; offline .lfpatch files need no connection.

What they keep on your PC (never sent to us):

WhatWhere
Hearth settings (language, library folder, bandwidth limit, channel, offline mode, launch options)%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lowfire\Hearth\config.json
Your library (which games are installed where)%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lowfire\Hearth\library.json and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lowfire\Games
Hearth’s logs%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lowfire\Hearth\logs
Crash records, written when a game exits with an error: the end of the game’s log, its exit code, launch arguments and a system summary%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lowfire\Hearth\crashes
Uninstall entries for Windows “Apps”, and “Start with Windows” if you turn it onHKEY_CURRENT_USER (Uninstall and Run keys)
Install records (manifest, version, rollback copies).lowfire inside each game’s folder

In portable mode (a portable.txt next to Hearth.exe) Hearth keeps its data in HearthData next to the exe instead.

The system summary used in crash records and support zips contains: Windows version and build, whether it’s 64-bit, the processor’s name, the number of cores, total memory, the .NET version and your language setting.

Support zips. Only when you choose Export for support, Hearth makes a zip on your PC (by default in Documents\Lowfire Support) containing logs, crash reports, the game’s settings file, the names of installed mods, a file check result, the install folder’s path (which may include your Windows user name) and the system summary. Nothing is uploaded. You decide whether to email it to us, and you can open it first to see what’s inside.

Our games

Our games keep their settings, saves, logs and caches on your PC (normally in %APPDATA%\<game name>), and write crash reports there too. They don’t contain analytics, advertising or tracking. A game that offers online features, or that you buy through a store such as Steam, will say so on its page; where a store or online service is involved, its own privacy policy also applies, and we’ll list here exactly what our game sends to it.

When you email us

If you write to us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach (such as a support zip). We use it only to answer you and to fix the problem, and we keep it for as long as needed to do that (usually no more than two years after the conversation ends) unless the law requires longer. Our email is hosted by [Email provider, e.g. the mailbox the @lowfire.ly addresses forward to].

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies:

  • serving the website and downloads, keeping them secure, and counting downloads: our legitimate interest in running and protecting our services (Article 6(1)(f));
  • answering your emails and support requests: legitimate interest, or taking steps you asked for under a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) when it’s about something you bought.

We don’t use your data for marketing, profiling or automated decisions.

Who else sees it

  • Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting, downloads, network security), as our processor.
  • [Email provider, e.g. the mailbox the @lowfire.ly addresses forward to] (email), as our processor.

That’s all. We never sell or rent personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising. Some of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States; where that happens they rely on recognised safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, restrict or object to its use, or move it elsewhere. In practice we hold very little: usually just your emails. Write to privacy@lowfire.ly. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

California residents: we don’t sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we don’t use sensitive personal information.

Children

Our games are made to be enjoyed by families, but our website and software don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone, of any age. If a child under 13 has emailed us and a parent wants that removed, write to us and we’ll delete it.

Security

Our website and download server only use HTTPS. Hearth and our installers check every file they download against its SHA-256 hash before using it. If you find a security problem, please tell us at security@lowfire.ly.

Changes

If this policy changes we’ll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change matters, for example if Hearth ever started sending something new, we’ll announce it in the news and in Hearth before it happens.
