End user licence agreement for Lowfire games

Last updated 26 October 2026

Template, not yet reviewed by a lawyer. It describes what our website and software really do, but the wording still needs legal review, and items in [brackets] are placeholders to fill in.

This agreement is between you and [Lowfire legal entity name] (“Lowfire”, “we”) and covers every game we publish, including its updates, downloadable content and the files installed with it (the “game”). By installing or playing the game, you accept it. If a store you bought the game through has its own terms, those apply too.

1. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and play the game on computers you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment. Playing together with friends and family in your home, on one screen or on your local network, is exactly what the game is for.

The game is licensed, not sold. We (and our licensors) keep all rights in it that this agreement doesn’t give you.

2. Mods

Our games support mods. You may make mods, use them, and share them for free, as long as:

  • they don’t contain our game’s files or assets beyond what’s needed to work (don’t redistribute the game itself);
  • they aren’t sold or put behind a paywall without our written permission (donations and free tip jars are fine);
  • they don’t contain malware, illegal content, or other people’s work you don’t have the right to share.

Mods are not made by us; use them at your own risk. Hearth lets you switch them off at any time.

3. Videos and streams

You may stream the game and publish videos and screenshots of it, including monetised ones, on any platform. A mention of the game’s name is appreciated. This doesn’t let you use our logos to suggest we endorse you, or redistribute the game.

4. What you may not do

Except as the law allows despite this agreement, you may not:

  • copy, sell, rent, lend or redistribute the game or its files;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the game, except to the extent needed to make mods as described above or as permitted by law (for example for interoperability);
  • remove copyright notices, or bypass any protection in the game;
  • use the game, its art or its code to train or build another product.

5. Updates

We may update the game to fix bugs, improve it or keep it working. Hearth and the Patcher download updates when you choose to install them, and can roll an update back. Some updates may be needed to keep playing with others.

6. Your data

Our games keep settings, saves, logs and crash reports on your computer and don’t send them to us. See the privacy policy.

7. Open-source components

The game is built with the Godot Engine and other open-source components, each under its own licence. Those licences come with the game and are listed in licences and credits. Nothing in this agreement restricts your rights under them.

8. Warranty

We want the game to work well and will try to fix what’s broken. But to the extent the law allows, the game is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. If you’re a consumer, you also have statutory rights (for example, that digital content matches its description and is of satisfactory quality) that this agreement does not limit.

9. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the game. This doesn’t limit liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Ending this agreement

You can end this agreement at any time by uninstalling the game. It ends automatically if you seriously break it. When it ends, you must stop using and delete the game.

11. Law

This agreement is governed by [the laws of the country of registration], and disputes go to [the courts of that country]. If you’re a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
